Talking about
GODs, Cents, Apes, Wolves and Burnouts
Nostalgic in the Future
Since the Revolution will be able
to play GameCube games does that mean that it will be also using GameCube
Optical Discs as its media? The GODs have been quite the bottleneck on
various games resulting in artifacted video and imcomplete song lists when
compared to the Playstation 2 and XBox versions.
- McFly
Paul Responds: You have to remember the Revolution's media has not
been announced yet. Just because the Revolution is backwards compatible it
does not mean that it has to use GODs as its format. If the Revolution has
a tray to load discs then all Nintendo has to do is cut a groove in the
tray to hold the smaller discs. Or if its top-loading like the GameCube
then its even easier to pop the disc in.
Making Cents
I gotta say I'm loving your
"Two Cents" articles that you guys are putting out. I've been
coming to the site for the past few years and I gotta say that its a great
feature. That William really likes to speak his mind doesn't he. I can't
wait for the March edition. Keep on doing what you're doing, because like
they say in the McDonald's commercials..... "I'm Lovin' It!"
- Patrick
My DS is Lonely
Lonely Nintendo DS player searching
for new games to play. Loves to shoot aliens with my gun on my power suit,
race through the Italian countryside and shoot baskets from time to time.
Also likes to play with others. May have to cheat on my DS with a PSP.
- Gameless in Seattle
Paul Responds: Now that's an interesting letter if I do say so
myself. Its true there aren't that many DS games to go jumping up and down
for being released at the moment. A lot of the games recently released
showed promise but disappointed (Rayman DS, for example). Need for Speed
Underground 2 DS which is coming out on April 19 looks interesting, but
its a long way for some any really cool games. Metroid Prime: Hunters
doesn't come out till August and that's a long time to wait. About
cheating on your DS with a PSP, I wouldn't say its out of the question.
There are already a lot of cool games on the PSP that are worth looking
into.
Legend of Zelda: The Wolf?
Man what a GDC Nintendo had. I cant
believe the Zelda video Nintendo showed. I cant wait for that game. That
game may have totally restored my faith in Nintendo and its devotion to
its fans. I have two questions.
1) In the new trailer at the end there is the
scene with the wolf with the moon in the background and the gorgeous
scenery in the foreground. What does the wolf have to do with the game?
2) What will be the subtitle for the game? I
assume there will be a Japanese name for it and then we'll get a rough
translation.
Great site, keep up the good work.
- Wolfman Jack
Paul Responds: Well let see, its unknown at this time what
significance if any the wolf has to do with the game. Could the masks make
a return and Link turns into a wolf? It could be something along those
lines, or it could it be a stalfo (the wolf creature enemies that
frequented the Lost Woods in Ocarina of Time). I am personally hoping that
Link can indeed turn into a wolf like creature.
Until we know the story we can't really speculate on the subtitle.
Especially the trailer we saw at GDC was very vague. It was basically a
gameplay video and with very few clues to the story except for the
possible wolf. I'm going to have to quote Nintendo on this, its something
that they have been saying for years..... "wait till E3."
Waiting Down Under
When will or will DK Racing get to
Australia? I have been waiting for this since I was 4 and was disappointed
by Diddy Kong racing.
- Ob
Paul Responds: Sorry to inform you, but DK Racing (in the form we
last saw it at E3 2001) is not coming
out, ever. Since Nintendo sold Rare to Microsoft the game has been in
limbo. It has been rumored that it is now coming to XBox and instead of
Donkey Kong headlining it (for obvious reasons) Banjo will be the star.
That was an old rumor though, nothing has been said of it since. In fact
it was so long ago I don't remember where I read it.
One Angry Chicken
Ever since it's release in 2001
fans have been worried that the GC would lack support from third party
developers. By 2002 it had seemed most people had relaxed a little, and
most titles earlier released exclusively for the XB and PS2 made their GC
debut. However I have recently noticed a number of "more mature"
titles that Microsoft and Sony's systems are getting but not Nintendo's
Cube. Atari's Driver 3 and EA's Burnout 3 are some good examples. Is the
GC once again failing to interest adult consumers? Why is Nintendo's
little magic box deprived once again of most T-R rated games? I really
don't care about the mindless GTA 3, but Driver and Burnout are some of my
favorite series.
Love you're site, keep up the great work!
- Chicken Lips Jr.
Paul Responds: Thanks for
the kind words of the site. I think the problem lies in the public
perception of the GameCube. I mean look at it and compare it to the XBox
and PS2. The GameCube looks like a child's toy. Even Nintendo knows they
made a mistake in designing it. Because of that perception, so called
"mature" games are more likely to sell less than the family
oriented games. Although I must point out that the first two Burnouts sold
relatively well despite being released a full six months after the
Playstation 2 versions. So do I think that the GameCube is a lost cause
when it comes to these types of games? Not really. We do have Resident
Evil 4 and we just got Mortal Kombat: Deception. Although we're not
getting Scarface or The Godfather. However since you mentioned that Driver
and Burnout are your favorite games, maybe you can find solace that it
doesn't look either franchise will get any new versions till at least next
year or later.
