A
number of Star Wars games have been brought onto the wondrous
little cube, including Star Wars: Rouge Leader and Star Wars:
the Clone Wars. Some
of them have turned out excellent, others, have not been bad,
but not as good as it could of been.
Star Wars: Bounty hunter is about Boba Fetts's father,
Jango Fett. The game follows Jango as he hunts bounties and
tries to beat his rival, Montross, to the bounty while after
the same bounty. So, the game sounds fun, right? But, does it
really turn out to be one of those could have been better
titles?
Features
- Third-person 3D
action-adventure spans 18 levels on six huge worlds,
including Coruscant, Tatooine, as well as a
maximum-security asteroid prison
- Intense action driven by a
compelling story that explains how Jango Fett was chosen
to be the source for the clone army seen in Attack of the
Clones, told through gameplay and cinematic sequences
created by Industrial Light & Magic
- Overpower enemies with
Jango's deadly arsenal including his trademark dual
blaster pistols, missile-equipped jetpack, flamethrower,
toxic darts, sniper rifle, and more
- Door's locked? Burn through
with your wrist-mounted cutting laser and kick it down!
- Use your scanner to locate
bounties, then chase down, corner and snare them with your
wrist cable - or blast them into space dust.
- Encounter over 100 unique
characters, including familiar Star Wars aliens, droids
and creatures, plus a fearsome Krayt Dragon and a host of
new additions to the Star Wars Universe
- Sweeping orchestral
soundtrack includes music from John Williams' Attack of
the Clones score, as well as original music composed
exclusively for the game
- Rich, atmospheric sound
design by Skywalker Sound
- Featuring the voice talents
of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones stars
Temuera Morrison as Jango Fett and Leeanna Walsman as Zam
Wesell. Also featuring TV and film star Clancy Brown as
Jango's brutal arch-nemesis Montross
- Runs in progressive scan
mode and surround sound
Gameplay
The game consists of almost all run and gun, but
the Jetpack seems to add a 3rd dimension to it. I
personally loved just flying around, but I wish it could go
for a longer time before it has to recharge. The game features
a lock on target, similar to Zelda: Ocarina of Time and
Metroid Prime. It works rather well with this kind of game.
Jango can also shoot another target when he is locked on to
one. For instance, when he has his duel blaster out, while he
is targeting one enemy he fires with one pistol and shoots
another enemy with the other pistol without having to lock on.
This makes it much easier to kill off big crowds of
enemies. Unfortunately, it can at times get a bit repetitive.
Another thing Jango does is hunt bounties. For
each level, there may be from five to sometimes even around
twenty bounties! Not including the main one you're after, of
course. Hunting bounties can be fun, and you can either tie
them up or give them a taste of your delicious blasters. Of
course, they're worth more alive. You can then use the Credits
you earn to buy some Bonus Material. Actually, the Bonus
Material in this game is rather good. You get everything from
Outtakes (mess ups, like seen in some movies) to Artwork to
even comic books that you can read! Very good stuff.
The levels can sometimes use a little exploring,
but most of the game is pretty linear.
They put an item trail to follow, almost. And sometimes, they
will put two different parts of the level and they will look
almost exactly the same, which could lead to frustration and
confusion. And sometimes boss fights will be to easy; it can
also be difficult, in means of finding out how to kill it. It
some times gives you not even the smallest hint on what to do,
besides locking on to a certain spot.
Graphics
The graphics aren't the greatest. In fact, they're
not great at all. The character animations are a little jumpy
from time to time. And the textures are just plain dull. There
might be a ship or two in their air, or some pedestrians
walking around, but nothing real special. But the cut scenes. That's
a different story. The cut scenes are some of the best I've
seen in any game, the movement is smooth and it all looks
great. But to bad the cut scenes aren't like the game.
There are some nice affects, but overall, plain
graphics. You will visit locations such as Courasant, and some
new places as well. Each with their unique environment, but
besides background and the way things look its not a whole lot
different then the rest of the game.
Sound
The sound is this games strongest point. No
doubt about it. The game sounds excellent, with professional
voice acting in the cut scenes, the laser blasts, and the
Music. The Voices are done by the actually actors, well, at
least Jangos is. The sound effects are rather good; you can
hear the lasers as it comes by you and past your ear. And the
Jetpack makes its little vroom sound to.
And the music Star Wars fans are in for a real treat
when it comes to the music. It features original songs, and
some new ones made for the games.
Control
Overall the controls work
rather well, being able to circle enemies while blasting,
occasionally activating your jetpack, allowing you to take out
large groups of enemies quickly, and makes it fun.
Unfortunately, the camera isn't the best. It never really
works well, and can sometimes get in the way.
The controls
are as follows:
A
- Shoot
B
- Jump
R
- Lock on
L
- Use Jetpack
Y
- use (to activate switches and such)
X
- To Duck and Roll.
Replay
Value
The game is quite lengthy, with 18 big
levels, which might take you a try or two to get through.
There are lots of unlockable goodies, and many
secondary objectives. Very nice.
Personal
Thoughts
This is one of LucasArts better
games. Many people will say negative things about it, but I
would at least give it at least a rent. I personally enjoyed
the huge levels and hunting bounties.
The cut scenes are fantastic, and very cool unlockables,
this game should keep you busy for a while.

The graphics are awful. The imagination
the coders have shown is not evident. Fighting is stilted. For
a game that promised so much bounty hunter is disappointing.
For a game Bounty hunter is depressing.
Not the game to play to introduce anyone to gaming. Not the
game to play to widen your scope. These two can be simplified:
Not the game to play. And I have nothing more to say. (nice
cut-scenes though).
